So, if you know me at all... I am competitive, mostly type A personality. I like winning. I like getting first place. I love strategy. I play to win. I don't like losing. Mostly, I don't like being last. Usually, I don't mind if I'm on a team and don't win, but I especially get upset when I lose by myself.
One example of how competitive I am: my friends constantly play this game called "Draw Something" on their iPhones. You have certain things you have to draw, and you get more points the harder the object is to draw. Your opponent (I would not even call it that... more like friend) guesses, and then it's their turn to draw. You just go round after round and try to go as many rounds as you can drawing well and guessing correctly. I refuse to play. After a couple days, I realized there's no clear winner, so why play? Now, Scramble with Friends is where it's at. I would also like to clarify that in sports, my competitive spirit tones down a lot. However, in strategic, mind, and guessing games, I love to win. Sometimes, this gets the best of me, and I get fleshy. Nevertheless, I've learned to repent a lot. Haha. :)
Anyways, I think there's something holy and so biblical about winning. I think it's the mindset that I think we as followers of Jesus are so called to have in the way we approach life. Jesus died on the cross giving us victory. When we accept Jesus, our DNA is forever altered, and we become victorious, eternal beings. When we win, we are agreeing with our DNA, and when we walk in defeat, we walk against the grain of who we are. Isn't that crazy?!
Jake Griffin, the senior pastor for the future Baton Rouge Antioch church plant, my former section leader, and a father figure in my life, once said: "It's not about your gifts. It's about who can get in the arena, take the hits, stay standing, and wait for God for the breakthrough." We are identified as warriors of the army of God, vying for the kingdom of heaven to overcome the dominion of darkness. We were made to not back down and play victim or easily admit defeat. We are the people of God, who need to know our identity and fight for more. AND we need to be confident in the power of our God. He's the one with the breakthrough, but we get to reap the victory because we are co-heirs with Jesus.
Writing this post made me love winning even more. Ha.
I enjoyed that, and now I want to win something. Maybe a quick game of solitaire on easy for a guaranteed win before I hit it for the night.
